Dr. Faruq is a Gastrointestinal and Advanced Laparoscopic surgeon with over 30 years of experience. He was a Consultant Surgeon in the UK & Ireland from 1995 to 2001, and was also a leading surgeon at Welcare Hospital, Dubai from 2001 to 2005.. He is currently attached to the Dubai Mall Medical Centre in Dubai and holds admitting and operating privileges at several hospitals in Dubai.. Having obtained a basic medical degree and post graduate surgical qualifications from Bangalore, India, he received higher surgical training in Gastro-Intestinal and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in the United Kingdom. He was then conferred the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1993. He has since received training in Obesity surgery at highly renowned training centers in Brussels, Belgium, Strasbourg, France, and at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. Dr. Faruq is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. Dr Faruq founded the Emirates Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgery in 2004 and has served the Society as President from 2004 to 2010. He is also a co-founder of the UAE Chapter of the International Federation for the surgery of Obesity and is currently serving as it’s General Secretary He has been the Organising Chairman for several surgical conferences in the UAE and has also presented dozens of papers at international conferences at home and abroad. Dr Faruq also has several publications to his credit. His contributions to the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery have received recognition through awards which were conferred on him in recent years (see below).               The Arthur L.
