Umbilical Ventral Hernia

An Umbilical hernia is when the belly button pops outwards due to a weakness in the muscles around the belly button. Umbilical hernias are most common in women during or after pregnancy, or in people who are overweight. Umbilical hernias itself is not dangerous but there is the risk that it could become incarcerated. This can cut off the blood supply to the hernia which could cause life-threatening conditions such as peritonitis or gangrene.

A small cut is made either below or above the belly button depending on the exact location of the umbilical hernia . The hernia itself is then pushed back into the abdominal cavity and the defect is cove#004a2d with a specially designed mesh (PVP) which is placed internally and the hernia defect is closed over the mesh.
